A Career at SNL

Teaching positions at SNL become available once in a while and run from Tuesday to Thursday, 9am to 3pm. We are always keen to receive applications from qualified educators as well as volunteers. Squamish Nature Learners is hiring a teacher for an outdoor nature-based K-7 program. Teachers are expected to teach 2- 3 days a week mostly outdoors in a park landscape with weekly trips to the river. Teachers are responsible for connecting curriculum goals to the land, student assessments and learning plans (3x a year), as well as daily implementation of BC Curriculum through ecologically-centered, decolonized play-based learning and experience/ desire to work with Indigenous Elders.

Squamish Nature Learners is located on the unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation. We are in our 5th year of operation. Our program's main pillars include connecting to the land, imaginative ecological education, decolonization, reconciliation, and building connections with our local Elders. We are an anti-racist, anti-homophobic/ transphobic program. We welcome teachers from all backgrounds, priority will be given to Indigenous and BIPOC applicants.

Qualifications:

  • Forest education / Land-based learning education

  • Clean Criminal Record

  • Current First Aid

  • Experience working with elementary students (K-7)

  • Experience teaching outside (preferred)

  • Experience working with Indigenous Elders (preferred)
